Fine Art

Romeo’s residence on the Adriatic Sea with its abundance of wild beauty and classical medieval architecture has inspired him to not only reunite with his past passion for painting, but to also artistically connect with parts of himself previously unexplored.

Romeo paints with traditional Old Master techniques on a digital screen to create compelling works that uniquely bond classical beauty with a contemporary narrative.

After completing  ‘The Mystics of Montenegro’ series at the end of July 2023, Romeo has since began creating works in two concurrent series: the ‘Relinquish’ series, and the ‘Portraits of Significance’ series. His focus now currently lies in developing the Relinquish non finito series further.

Ivan Varga’ (a finalist in the  ‘9th Annual Figures and Faces’ Juried International Art Competition Exhibition) from the Portraits of Significance series (2023). Developing this series began in August when my father who was terminally ill revealed to me in conversation that he had been wanting me to paint his portait for the last thirty years. Although he said it was “too late now”, I painted his portait, shared with him the completed artwork along with the process video, and he was delighted. Two days after he received the portrait in his physical hands, he passed away, and the painting was displayed as his image of remembrance at the memorial service. I am so glad he got to see his portait painted by his son, and that it was not in fact too late at all.

‘How Her Eyes Speak’, from the Relinquish series (2023). Created in a non-finito style, this series is a growing body of work that is both experimental and explorative in nature. As a naturally highly technical artist, the theme of this series is about ‘letting go’ as a painter, and leaving the works consciously unresolved in order to facilitate a deeper  dialogue between the subject and the observer. The artworks are painted using Old Master techniques on a digital screen and then converted onto canvas as the final physical original artwork. The artist’s name and date of creation is on the back of the artwork. The canvas comes stretched on a handcrafted wooden frame and is handmade in the United Kingdom. The artwork comes ready to hang.
